About the Artists:

Jeff Dodd is an Oklahoma realist painter of both the landscape and figurative tradition. However, as a realist, Dodd re-interprets what he sees to create a unique view of both the landscape and the people he portrays.

His landscapes are not necessarily depictions of authentic native landscapes. He gives his own artistic license to interpret the land with a focus on light, billowing clouds, and seemingly untouched terrain. This manner of idealized realism and focus on the allure of the nature are what makes Jeff's paintings so appealing.

Jeff's figurative paintings, like his landscapes, are hyper-realistic as far as technical proficiency.  However, the figures take the form of otherworldly characters. From costumed women to clown faced children, the viewer is lead into a world manifested by the artist's imagination. A fantasy world that varies from entertaining to emotionally alluring. Each painting is a unique departure from the other. The result is perhaps the reason why art collectors and enthusiasts are drawn back to it repeatedly.

Jeff's work is part of the Philbrook Museum's permanent collection and the Norman Regional Hospital the Oklahoma Capitol. He is represented by M.A. Doran Gallery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Statement:

Jeff Dodd is an Oklahoma native and realist painter of both the landscape and figurative tradition.  As a hyperrealist, Jeff re-interprets what he sees to create a unique view, a portrait of the landscape.  This piece is painted from a photograph that Jeff took looking west and is 15 miles north of Woodard on Highway 34.

Choosing to live in Western Oklahoma, Jeff enjoys the drama and subtle beauty of this land. His landscapes are not necessarily depictions of authentic native landscapes because he adds his own artistic license to interpret the land with a focus on light, billowing clouds, and seemingly untouched terrain.  This manner of idealized realism and focus on the allure of nature are what makes Jeff's paintings so appealing.  Studying old master techniques has influenced his painting style.

Jeff's paintings can be found in many private and public collections. He has work in the permanent collection of Philbrook Museum, The Norman Regional Hospital, The Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club, AR; and the Oklahoma State Capitol Collection.
