Golightly writes: "For many people, books are the only escape they have. They are the portals to imaginative lands where one can go places only limited by our minds. Ever since I was a little girl, books have played a very important role in my growth as a person and integral in my growth as a creative. Some of my earliest memories are of spending languid summer days on the floor of the bookstore owned by a relative, nestled up close to the comic book shelves and then collections of short stories and novels. It wasn't uncommon to spend hours in that store exploring the musty tomes, the fragrance of aged pages thick in the air. To this day it remains one of my most favorite smells. Those comics and books were the way I 'escaped' into a colorful world. In those pages were the most exciting and beautiful places, exotic lands filled with frightening monsters. The world would dull and fade around me as river waters teeming with the most unusual creatures rushed in all directions, pushing everything else out.
The thought that future generations will not share the deep love for the physicality of books is a real shame, in my opinion. The memories would have been nowhere near romantic if they had contained something that had no scent, no heft, no age."
