BRENDA KINGERY

Passages

We are proud to introduce the work of Chickasaw artist Brenda Kingery. Her work is inspired by her travels through the Ryukyuan Islands of Japan, Mexico and Central America. While living in Okinawa, she interacted with local weavers and potters, and later in her career she began to reconnect with her Chickasaw heritage which further influenced her work. Through her travels and experiences, Kingery is able to capture the visual essence of her culture and life connections. Kingery has been a champion of women's empowerment around the world, and she was inducted into the Chickasaw Hall of Fame in 2019.
