We are excited to present a solo show and new body of work by Denise Duong in the North Gallery. Her narrative-driven work conveys ideas of everyday life and emotion and blends whimsy and humor. The paintings integrate many layers of meaning and multiple stories as if her imagination has poured onto the surface of the canvas. A well-established artist based in Oklahoma City, Duong is known for her paintings and large-scale murals, which can be found across the country.
This solo show is accompanied by a celebration of women artists in honor of Women’s History Month in the South Gallery.

We live amongst a lot of noise that surrounds us. The man-made world has its many, many problems that we don’t have control over. Ego, power, greed, selfishness seems to be like a pollutant cloud that we unwillingly breathe. In all that chaos there is a way to find peace. There is love, kindness and beauty in the world. To survive the trove of shockwaves, we must look beyond and within.
For this body of work, I combined two of the styles that I like to work in. My line of work typically has multiple narratives running through them. Whereas my more colorful paintings tend to focus on a single moment in time with the smaller stories being more subtly strewn throughout the piece.
This new series has been therapeutic beyond words. Quite possibly the most satisfying body of work I have done to date.
