Sarah Fox Horsfield is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma but has lived in Denver since 2001. She has been selling her work nationally for over 25 years and her work has recently been featured in the New York Times and two network television shows.
Sarah's pieces are all about the process she uses to create them. She applies paint in shapes and colors so they play off each other, layering elements, and heavily editing until the pieces come together.
She has also started her own interior design business. After 15 years spent working in advertising, she decided to turn her passion for interior design into a business.
All of her other spare time is spent with her husband, two daughters, and dog Gus. And also her chickens.

I’ve been creating art as long as I remember. When I was a kid, I had fun creating all sorts of “stuff”. I feel I became an artist when creating became something I had to do.
Each new work I create is an adventure because I never know where it will take me or what it will look like when it is done. Each is made up of many, many layers and every time I paint a new layer of paint, I leave “bits” of the previous layer behind. Ultimately, I like to layer and layer, creating all sorts of “bits,” until the painting is super chaotic. Then I get to do my favorite part of the whole process, which is to create order and simplicity out of the chaos.
The success of a piece all hinges on color. When I paint I spend most of my time thinking about and mixing colors. I will mix a color over and over until I get the right one. I really love to incorporate odd color combinations into my paintings. Sometimes the ugliest colors can look beautiful when placed next to the right color.
Painting is when I am happiest. Each painting is a product of me having a good time and I want every piece to reflect that.
